Please take note also for the dependencies of each service. Please refer to Microsoft Windows online support for the issue. I am unable to connect remotely with the server. Whenever I give the address of server and click connect I got the login screen as usual. Then I got the one that is directing to the desktop of the machine. But at this point, it hangs up for a while and then returns the following error.
I checked everything at the server side. Everything is okay. Remote desktop connectivity is enabled on the server.
Server is not busy processing, and memory usages are at their normal lines. There are not connections that are using remote desktop connectivity. I again and again tried to connect, but got the same error. Kindly help in resolving this problem. Somehow I accidently removed the "Routing and Remote Access" service from win server. Now, when I start the "Routing and Remote Access" snap-in, it tells me "The system cannot find the file specified". I'd appreciate it if someone can help me re-install this service back..
I really need it to setup a VPN. This should get you back up and running. Thanks for a quick reply. The problem is that "Routing and Remote Access" service doesn't even show up in the services list.
RegMon showed that it was now looking for two values under that key, one called "winlogon. I looked at the other keys around that, and found that they had DWORD values under them like: "explorer.
The issue does not necessarily occur after a week. Last occurance was after 20 days of no reboot. So There is no point forcing a restart once a week. We have a backup running overnight. Besides, server getting stuck at 'Applying Internet explorer branding policy' is a symptom and not a cause of the issue. If it's the AD box, I would expect that.
Can you click start or fire up any applications? Have you tried pinging out to just an IP address? Try It's the only server we have and yes it is providing DNS to clients. Internet is provided to clients through the server. If server becomes unavailable, there is no internet on client machines either, even if the router is ON and Switches are working.
The session is still active when the server goes 'wonky' I can still open applications. Its only that when I try to re-start certain services, they fail. And also when I try to log-off or shut down the machine it doesn't respond to my commands. Is ISA running too? I'm just curious what is actually providing the firewall?
I don't expect it, but are you using Proxy for clients? Are you using OWA from external? Do you know if that is accessible or can you externally telnet to port 25 on the SBS box when the server goes nuts? Anything useful in the logs? As the router is set up to route traffic for that subnet to the VPN server you end up with a routing loop and get TTL expired in Transit. If you simply get Request timed out, try using traceroute tracert x.
With OpenVPN, they're going to need to install a client where as with the solutions I've discussed there's nothing additional to install.
